Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 became a huge success at the box office this year. The horror comedy left behind all the records. However, following the massive success rumours started that Rajkummar Rao had hiked his fees. In a recent conversation with The Indian Express, the actor dismissed it saying he is not stupid to burden his producers.
The buzz started that after Stree 2, he’s upped his fee to Rs 5 crore. “I read different figures every day,” he guffaws. “I’m not stupid to burden my producers. Being a part of the biggest blockbuster is not going to change me as an actor, money is just a byproduct of my passion. I want to work all my life so I keep looking for roles that surprise me, excite me, challenge and help me grow.”
Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer horror-comedy Stree, which was released in 2018, has been number one on Amazon Prime Video for the past few days. The film is ranked 7th in India’s top 10 grossers list. According to reports, the horror-comedy film collected Rs 180 crore worldwide. The film was made at a cost of Rs 25 crore. The film was released and grossed 7 times more at the box office.
After 6 years, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor knocked it out of the park with their 2024 horror-comedy, Stree 2. Made on a budget of only 60 crore, it became a massive blockbuster at the worldwide box office, earning over Rs 880 crore gross.
The Stree sequel was released in theatres on August 15, 2024. It was the only successful Independence Day release this year. In fact, with earnings of over Rs 600 crore, Amar Kaushik’s directorial dominated the domestic box office for almost 1.5 months.
Stree 2 has concluded its theatrical run in India, garnering Rs 627.50 crore net. It is the highest-grossing Hindi film and the first to enter the Rs 600 crore club. Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer is also the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film after Jawan, which grossed Rs 640.42 crore in all languages.
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao will be next seen in Maalik directed by Pulkit. Rajkummar took to Instagram, where he shared the film’s poster, in which he is seen standing on top of a jeep holding an AK-47. The poster also features a line of trucks queued up in front of him. The poster had: “Maalik. Paida nahi ho sakta ban toh sakta hai,” written on it. Giving an update about the filming, he captioned it: “#Maalik ki duniya mein aapka swagat hai. Shoot shuru ho chuka hai, jald hi mulaqat hogi!”
This will be the first time Raj Kummar Rao will be seen playing the role of a gangster in an action thriller. The film shoot is now in progress, with an extensive schedule planned across various locations in India.
