President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday lauded the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed by the Parliament last year, saying that it marks the new beginning for women’s empowerment.
Addressing a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan on Tuesday, to mark 75 years of the adoption of India’s Constitution, President Droupadi Murmu praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for introducing the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’.
“Law on women reservation has started a new era of women empowerment in our democracy,” said President Murmu at the Constitution Day event.

Women’s Reservation Bill
The Bill lays down provisions for 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies as well as the Delhi Assembly. A 33 per cent reservation for women belonging to SCs and STs will also be provided within the existing quota for this category.
Making it the first bill to be introduced in the new Parliament building last year in September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it will enable greater participation of women in policy-making at the state and national levels and help achieve the goal of making India a developed country by 2047.
