An 82-year-old man, Murukayan, tragically lost his life after a violent altercation with his neighbour in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. The incident, which stemmed from a disagreement over a missing chicken, shocked the local community and raised questions about how such a minor dispute could escalate to such deadly violence.

Dispute Over Missing Chicken

The trouble began when a chicken, which belonged to Murukayan’s neighbour, Veeramani, was found in Murukayan’s chicken coop. Murukayan had mistakenly assumed the bird was his own and took it in. Veeramani, noticing the chicken was missing from his yard, began searching for it. When he discovered it in Murukayan’s possession, an accusation of theft was quickly made.

Murukayan denied the allegation, insisting that he had no intention of stealing the chicken. However, this denial did little to calm the situation, and the disagreement quickly escalated.

Violence Leads to Fatality

The situation turned violent when Veeramani’s son attacked Murukayan, beating him severely. The elderly man lost consciousness following the assault and was rushed to hospital, where he was later declared dead from his injuries. The tragic death left the victim’s family devastated and the local community in disbelief over how a simple misunderstanding could result in such a brutal and fatal outcome.

Following the incident, Veeramani and his family fled their home, and the police are currently searching for them. The police confirmed that the case is being treated as a murder investigation, and they are pursuing the culprits involved in the fatal attack.
