Thailand’s Golden Tiger Takes Internet By Storm, Months After Hippo Moo Deng’s Viral Fame – News18
Last Updated:
The newest sensation at Thailand’s Chiang Mai Night Safari is Ava, a three-year-old golden tiger, who has captured the hearts of animal lovers worldwide.
A three-year-old golden tiger named Ava has become the latest sensation at a zoo in Southeast Asia, just a few months after Thailand’s pygmy hippo, Moo Deng, went viral. Animal lovers across the world were thrilled when Chiang Mai Night Safari shared heartwarming pictures of Ava on Facebook. The golden, or strawberry, tiger — a breed distinguished by its unique golden coat, which results from recessive genes — is beautifully represented by Ava. With fewer than 100 of these tigers remaining in the world, they are incredibly rare.
Ava made her official debut just three weeks after the birth of her sister, Luna, on February 16, 2021. Their parents are part of a unique Bengal tiger lineage introduced to the safari park in 2015 from South Africa and the Czech Republic, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Since then, Ava’s photos have gone viral, racking up hundreds of millions of likes and shares. Her playful nature, curious personality and undeniable charm have made her an instant global favourite. It’s no wonder people can’t help but fall in love with this sweet and innocent tiger!

In addition to Ava, the Chiang Mai Night Safari is also home to her older sister Luna, who shares the same striking golden coat. Both tigers were born in 2021, making them just three years old. But photos of Ava alongside a zookeeper highlight how large she has grown. Despite her size, many internet users have likened her to an oversized domestic cat, captivated by her soft fur and her innocent, affectionate expression.
Ava and Luna can be spotted at the Chiang Mai Night Safari, much like Moo Deng, the pygmy hippo at Khao Kheow Zoo. If Moo Deng’s rise to fame is anything to go by, the Chiang Mai Zoo is likely to experience a surge in tourists keen to catch a glimpse of these remarkable and rare tigers.
Ava and Luna are available for viewing every day at the Tiger World area of the Chiang Mai Night Safari, from 11 am to 2 pm. Since September, Moo Deng, the baby pygmy hippo at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, eastern Thailand, has attracted attention from all corners of the world.
