Jan Panchayat will be held in Varanasi on 4th December

Through the meeting, an appeal has been made to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to cancel the decision of privatization of Varanasi and Agra Electricity Distribution Corporations in the larger public interest. The committee has also decided that a massive public awareness campaign will be conducted to make people aware of the difficulties faced after privatization. In the first phase of the Jan Jagran Abhiyan, Jan Panchayat will be organized in Varanasi on 4th December and in Agra on 10th December. Along with electricity workers, common consumers will also participate in the Jan Panchayat.

Accused of presenting misleading loss figures

Electricity Employees Joint Struggle Committee chief officials Jitendra Singh Gurjar have said that the decision of the Power Corporation is not in the interest of the employees and the general public. In the written agreement signed with the Chief Minister on January 25, 2000, it is written, ‘After evaluating the achievements made after the implementation of the Electricity Reform Transfer Scheme, if necessary, restoration of the previous situation will be considered after one year.’ The Sangharsh Committee has said that the figures related to losses released by the Power Corporation are completely misleading. It is being presented as if the main reason for the losses are the employees and engineers.

He told that this year the government has said to provide assistance of Rs 46130 crore. In which the fact is being hidden that out of Rs 46130 crore, the amount of subsidy is Rs 20 thousand crore which has to be given by the government as per the Electricity Act-2003. Similarly, the performance of the Odisha model that the management is talking about is much worse than that of the distribution companies of Uttar Pradesh. The major reason for the losses is buying expensive electricity from the private sector and selling it at cheap rates while incurring losses.
