More than 48 thousand candidates who applied with the hope of self-employment under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana are still waiting for training. Among these, the youth of major trades like tailors and masons are facing the most problems.

Under the scheme, a total of 87 thousand applications were received this time for 18 trades including tailor, carpenter, mason, blacksmith and potter. However, only 3581 candidates could be trained in the first phase. According to the District Industries Office, 40 thousand applications are pending for tailors and 8 thousand applications for masons, but till now no date has been issued by the government to start training for these trades.
Under the scheme, applicants are given tool kits and loans for employment after completion of training. But thousands of youth are getting frustrated due to the delay in the process. Deputy Commissioner of District Industries Office S. Siddiqui said, “The order for training for tailor and mason trade has not come from the government. As soon as instructions are received, training will be started immediately.”
