The BJP-led NDA is set to meet in New Delhi on Thursday, November 27, to discuss the Maharashtra Chief Minister position, the party sources said.
Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar are expected to attend the meeting, where they may discuss the allocation of the Chief Minister’s post, cabinet shares, and ministerial berths with the top BJP leadership.
Sources also revealed that Shinde-led Shiv Sena MPs will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah today, where Shinde is expected to present his stance on the Chief Minister’s role.
It is understood that the Shinde camp was given some assurances, with claims that Shinde would be made CM, irrespective of the numbers. However, the sources maintain that while the Shinde camp has the right to present its stand, there is still no clarity on the matter.
Suspense Over Maharashtra CM Post
The meeting comes as suspense mounts over the top post in the Mahayuti government following the recently declared results of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in the elections, comfortably crossing the magic number on November 23. The BJP won over 131 seats, while the Shiv Sena and NCP secured 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
Eknath Shinde, who resigned as Chief Minister on Tuesday, is currently serving as the caretaker CM till the new leader is sworn in. The term of the current government ended on November 26.
Earlier today, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis addressed the uncertainty surrounding the Chief Minister’s position, stating that a decision will be taken soon. “The discussion on the Chief Minister’s post will get an answer soon. The leaders of all three parties will decide together. The discussions of the seniors are going on,” he told the media.
