D Gukesh Vs Ding Liren, World Chess Championship, Game 3 LIVE: Indian Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju takes on defending champion Ding Liren of China in the third game of the World Chess Championship in Singapore on Wednesday.

D Gukesh bounced back to draw a largely uneventful second game against defending champion Ding Liren. Playing with black pieces, Gukesh made a comeback of sorts, having lost to Liren in the opener of the 14-game showdown, on Monday.

If Monday was the day when nothing he did worked according to plan, Tuesday changed everything for Gukesh as he could not have asked for a better start. Liren did not press at all while Gukesh just followed the basics as the game ended in a draw via repetition soon after black had completed the 23rd turn.

It may be recalled that the Chinese had won the last world championship match against Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia after coming back from behind as many as three times.

How Will The Champion Be Decided Ultimately?

A total of 7.5 points, from across 14 games, are required for either player to claim the championship. A win garners 1 point, a loss equates to 0, while a draw shall reward both players with 0.5 points each. If the match ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreak will be held the following day to determine the winner.

This year’s tournament marks the first time in 138 years that two Asian players will be pitted against each other in the marquee clash, which is offering a prize fund of USD 2.5 million.
