IIT-BHU has received a grant of Rs 97 lakh to prevent disability and neuro-disease. This has been issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research on Tuesday.

In this, a medical device will be prepared using 3D bioprinting technology, which will be capable of treating the disease called ALS i.e. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. ALS is a fatal and disabling incurable disease.

Dr. Sudeep Mukherjee, Assistant Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the institute, is making a cell-based treatment device for this. Only he has been given this fund. Dr. Mukherjee and his team are developing a new type of medical device using 3D bioprinting technology.

Death occurs within 2-4 years
According to Dr. Sudeep Mukherjee, this disease had remained a big challenge for medical science for a long time. The cause of this disease is genetic, which affects the movement, behavior and overall health of the person.
This causes serious respiratory disease and can even lead to death within 2-4 years. He said that this device will reduce the impact of the disease. For now, soon they will test the effect of this device on rats. After this it will be tested on humans.

The gene responsible will be identified
Dr. Sudeep Mukherjee said that the gene causing this disease will be identified. For this, cooperation of Neel Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital of West Bengal is also being taken. Samples of children and people suffering from this disease will be taken and their genetic causes, nervous system and behavioral aspects will be comprehensively analyzed.
