Tamil actor Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth are now officially divorced. Report by Sun TV confirms that the Chennai Family Welfare Court granted the former couple divorce after they stated that reconciliation was not possible.
The case had previously been heard three times, but both Dhanush and Aishwaryaa had failed to attend any of the earlier sessions. The duo, who tied the knot in 2004, has two sons, Linga and Yatra. Despite their separation, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa live close to each other in Chennai’s Poes Garden and continue to co-parent their children. They frequently share moments with their sons on social media.
Dhanush announced their separation on January 17, 2022, through a heartfelt post on X. He wrote, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjustment, and adaptation. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate.” Aishwaryaa shared a similar statement, marking the end of their 18-year-long marriage.
Meanwhile, Dhanush is embroiled in a legal feud with actress Nayanthara. The controversy began when Nayanthara accused him of refusing permission to use footage from her 2015 Tamil film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix wedding documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The actor-producer had also reportedly sent her a legal notice demanding ₹10 crore in damages for including a three-second behind-the-scenes clip from the movie.
In response, Dhanush has filed a civil suit at the Madras High Court against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and their production company Rowdy Pictures Private Limited. The suit, filed through his Wunderbar Films Private Limited, alleges unauthorized use of visuals from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. According to The Hindu, the court has now summoned Nayanthara and Vignesh to respond to the allegations in the next hearing.
