November 27th 2014 was a dark day for the cricketing family as Phil Hughes had a tragic accident on-ground, leading to his untimely death.

ON THIS DAY IN 2014: The cricket world received a huge jolt after Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes passed away. Hughes died in hospital two days after he was struck on the head by a ball while batting for South Australia against New South Wales in a Sheffield Shield match.
Hughes passed away just at the age of 25 and only three days short of his birthday. Hughes was up against his old teammates from New South Wales and he was batting on 63 when he was hit by a delivery bowled by Sean Abbott at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It resulted in a bleeding of the brain and Hughes underwent emergency surgery but all efforts went in vain.
Boasting some fine techniques and perfect timing, Phillip Hughes represented Australia in 26 Tests, 25 ODIs and one T20I. In Test cricket, he averaged 32.65 while scoring three centuries and seven half-centuries. In ODIs, he scored two tons and four half-centuries.

Hughes had a stellar First-Class Record where he aggregated 9023 runs in 114 matches at an average of 46.51 including 26 hundreds and a best of 243.
He also had a very impressive List-A record with an aggregate of 3639 runs in 89 innings at an average of 47.25 including 8 hundreds. As a teenager, he was considered to be one of Australia’s most promising talents.
In a bid to mark the 10th anniversary of Phillip Hughes’ untimely death, players in the Sheffield Shield competition have been wearing black armbands since Saturday (November 23). They will honour the former Australia cricketer by observing a moment’s silence before play on the fourth day and by sporting the black band in all the Sheffield Shield matches.
Regarding that, Cricket Australia (CA) boss Nick Hockley said, “We understand this will be a time of reflection for the many people who knew and admired Phillip Hughes. We wanted to ensure that the Hughes family, particularly, were comfortable with any commemorations and that we celebrate Phillip’s life and incredible achievements appropriately”, as reported by Reuters.
In international cricket, Phillip Hughes made his debut during a Test match against South Africa in March 2009. Hughes became the youngest player to score a century in each innings of a match when he achieved the feat in Durban in his second Test. In ODIs, Hughes featured for the first time four years after making his Test debut. In his maiden ODI, Hughes faced Sri Lanka in January 2013. His solitary T20I appearance occurred a year later in October against Pakistan.
Hughes scored 63 in his final innings.
