Suits Actor Patrick J Adams On ‘Drinking Too Much’ Before Quitting Legal Drama – News18

Patrick J Adams was a regular on the longest-running legal drama Suits, portraying Michael Ross till season 7.

Back in 2018, Patrick J Adams left his fans shocked after he decided to leave the popular legal drama Suits after seven successful seasons. While Adams had a lot of reasons to leave the show, he also faced several challenges at the time, including his struggle with alcohol and mental stress. In a recent podcast, the Suits star also revealed that his decision was in the good interest of his marriage and family, which he admitted turned out to be the best thing for him.

On the Tuesday episode of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, the Canadian-American actor said, “I wasn’t taking good care of my mental health and was drinking too much come the end of the seventh season. I was in a zone of living a pretty unexamined life. It was very miserable, I would say very depressed. I did not have the tools to deal with the depression beyond just spending money and drinking a lot. I really did not know how to talk about it or get therapy. You know what I mean, right? There were all these things that I knew I needed to probably be doing, but I wasn’t doing it.”

Adding that his condition was taking a lot of toll on his relationship as a father and husband, Adams further shared, “That was the breaking point for me and I was like I think, ‘I should stop drinking probably because I don’t want to be that. The best thing I ever did for myself was to stop drinking. It just needed to happen in order for all these things to happen.”

Adams also went on to recall that he never regretted the decision, stating it was the right thing for his marriage with Pretty Little Liars alum Troian Bellisario.

Why Did Patrick J Adam Quit Suits?

Elsewhere in the conversation, the actor also opened up about deciding to quit the show, stating that he felt the need to start his life together with his wife after years of long distance. “We had been away for seven years. Though we were together for the whole time on Suits, it was time. We had long distance for long enough and it was the time to start our lives together, to have kids, something we knew would take a couple of years before comfortably doing it,” he continued.

“The longer I stayed on the show, the longer I was putting this on hold,” the actor said, further explaining that he had enough money by the time to let go and have his own life with family.

For those unaware, Patrick J Adams’ storyline on Suits wrapped up with his marriage to his on-screen love interest Rachel Zane, played by Meghan Markle, who also exited the series after season 7. Adams was a serious regular on the long-running US legal drama, playing the role of a lawyer, Michael James Ross.
