A case of dowry death was registered The case pertains to the marriage of Mahendra Katiyar and Julie Katiyar on 22 March 2020. Julie died under suspicious circumstances on 3 July 2020. The deceased’s father Rajendra Katiyar had alleged that Mahendra strangled his daughter to death when his dowry demand was not met.
Police investigation and court decision The day after Julie’s death, on 4 July 2020, a case of dowry death was registered against Mahendra at Sikandra police station. The police completed the investigation and filed the charge sheet, after which the hearing started in the court. ADGC Vivek Tiwari said that on the basis of statements of witnesses, police investigation and arguments of both the parties, the court found Mahendra guilty and sentenced him.
