The CGST team raided the residence and factory of a pan masala businessman located on Lalpur-Pandeypur road in the city. Investigated for three days. Many irregularities including tax evasion came to light on Monday. The pan masala businessman’s raw material goes to Uttar Pradesh as well as Gujarat and Ahmedabad. Tax evasion of Rs 6 crore has been detected in the preliminary investigation. This is the second time in the last six months that a pan masala businessman has been raided.
A pan masala businessman resident of a colony of Pandeypur has a factory for preparing raw materials in Soypur. Different raw materials like betel nut, zarda, pan masala etc. are prepared, which are sent to other states apart from UP. It is alleged that the pan masala trader keeps the weight of the goods correct but reduces the prices of the goods in the bill. For example, if the goods are worth Rs 100 then the rate on the bill is only Rs 10. Charges Rs 90 separately. The entire work is done in cash.
According to CGST sources, Reiki was being conducted for six months. When foul play was confirmed, raids were conducted. The CGST team has been investigating the case since last Saturday. Many types of irregularities have come to light on Monday. Bills, papers, firm’s bank accounts, laptop, mobile etc. were thoroughly scrutinized.
Family members kept in a room for three days, slept on the floor, mobile phones confiscated
According to sources, all the family members of the businessman were kept in the same room for three days. No one was allowed to go out. Everyone’s mobile phones were also confiscated. The family members had to sleep on the floor. A Commissioner rank officer of CGST said that the theft figure may increase further. The investigation of documents is still going on.
Goods were loaded from city station, role of RPF and commercial doubtful
CGST investigation revealed that the goods of the pan masala businessman were loaded from Varanasi City station. Involvement of RPF and commercial personnel has also come to light in this. RPF and Commercial were fully aware of the irregularities in the bill.
The private gunner started running after seeing the team
Seeing the CGST team at the pan masala businessman’s place, the private gunner started running away. However, the team did not allow him to leave the house. The team has visited the residence and the factory and investigated.
