Manoj Muntashir and AR Rahman’s first meeting took place after the music composer approached him through Boney Kapoor for the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan.
Popular lyricist Manoj Muntashir had an interesting story to share about the Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman as he sat down for an interview. During the conversation, Muntashir recalled the first time he met Rahman, calling it ‘quite confusing’. Heaping praises on the music maestro, Muntashir revealed that their first meeting was nothing close to what he had imagined in his dreams. He even called Rahman the most ordinary person when he entered the room. The meeting took place after the music composer approached Muntashir through Boney Kapoor for the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan.
Speaking with O2 India, Manoj Muntashir shared, “My first meeting was nothing like I had imagined even in my wildest dreams. I had always seen him in public gatherings. I had never met him personally. His name carries a huge persona with it. It holds a legendary and cult status. With that kind of persona created, you generally picture a spiritual energy entering the room. But, when Rahman sir entered the room, he was like any other common man.”
Seemingly impressed by his demeanour, Manoj Muntashir continued, “Be it his attire, his words, or the way he sat. He is the most ordinary man in the world until he sits with his piano. He is not extra-ordinary and that’s what makes him so special. He doesn’t carry his fame on his shoulders like a medal, proclaiming, I am AR Rahman.”
While discussing music, AR Rahman’s divine nature shone through, as Manoj Muntashir mentioned during the conversation adding that the legend did not say anything deep or profound until the conversations about the songs began. The moment they started talking about music, it was like a nuclear reactor being unleashed, the lyricist remarked. Concluding, Muntashir noted, “ I had quite a confusing first meeting with him.”
Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan arrived in theatres in June last year after several delays. The film failed to perform well at the box office. Despite this, the songs like Team India Hai Hum and Mirza earned applause, becoming a fan favourite.
AR Rahman was recently in the news for the announcement of his separation from his wife Saira Banu. The duo was married for nearly 29 years. Days after the duo broke the news of their separation, Rahman’s ex-bassist Mohini Dey also made her split from her husband, Mark Hartsuch public.
