Defaulters ranging from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh have been kept in the first category. Their number is highest. 5085 such house holders have been identified in the Municipal Corporation limits. Defaulters between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh have been kept in the second category. Defaulters of more than Rs 5 lakh have been kept in the third category. The Municipal Commissioner had ordered that the accounts of the defaulters be seized. Initiating action on this, the accounts of 15 defaulters were seized on Friday. In these, accounts of 5 defaulters each were seized in Chhatta and Tajganj zones. The accounts of 3 defaulters of Hariparvat zone and 2 of Lohamandi zone were seized.

Hotel and marriage home also on radar There are also operators of hotels, marriage homes and hospitals in the city who have not deposited taxes to the corporation. The Municipal Commissioner has also given instructions to prepare a list of such people and take action against them as well as prepare a list of such offices of the Central and State Governments who have not deposited property tax to the Municipal Corporation.

Recovery has to be increased by 30 percent Additional Municipal Commissioner Satyendra Kumar Tiwari said that every revenue inspector has been given a target of collecting 30 percent more tax than the revenue collected earlier. Action will be taken against any revenue inspector who is not able to collect the tax as per the target.

Last year only one lakh had deposited house tax Last year, in the survey conducted by the Municipal Corporation, 3.25 lakh houses and properties were identified in the Municipal Corporation limits. Of these, during the year 2023-24, only one lakh people had deposited tax. There were around 1.25 lakh properties which had not deposited the tax. Similarly, in the year 2022-23, only 86 thousand tax payers paid tax to the Municipal Corporation. In the current financial year the number of taxpayers has increased to more than one lakh.
