Inaugurating the program, District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar said, “AIDS is a serious challenge, which can be defeated only with collective efforts and awareness.”

He stressed on sympathetic treatment of AIDS victims in the society and doing more for high risk groups such as transgenders and sex workers. Under this year’s theme ‘Take the Right Path’, he called upon people to adopt sensitivity towards AIDS prevention and victims.

Ramp walk becomes main attraction for HIV infected women

In the program, HIV infected women gave a message against social discrimination through a confident ramp walk. His presentation inspired the audience and the entire atmosphere echoed with thunderous applause. Along with this, the dance presentation of children suffering from AIDS made people emotional. Street plays and songs based on measures to prevent AIDS by the girl students of Amity School played an important role in raising awareness.

Information about health services like TB and HIV/AIDS treatment, STI, ART, TI, OST was given in the exhibition.

Awareness increased through exhibition and dialogue

An exhibition was also organized in the program, in which District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar visited each stall and discussed with partner NGOs and gave suggestions. Organizations like Center for Advocacy and Research (CFOR), Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust, Humana People to People India and Helping Youth Foundation also made the program successful with their contributions.

Awareness campaign across the state

Ramesh Srivastava, Joint Director of Uttar Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, said that seminars, rallies, street plays, slogan competitions and dialogue sessions were organized across the state for AIDS awareness. Through Red Ribbon Club in colleges, youth were motivated towards AIDS prevention and sensitivity.

Change is possible only through collective effort

The program was led by Amrita Soni (Project Director) and Ravindra Kumar (Additional Project Director). On this occasion, Dr. Chitra Suresh, Dr. Geeta Aggarwal, Dr. A.K. Singhal, Pawan Chandel and Anuj Dixit, along with a large number of health department officials, social workers and students were present.
