After the horrific fire incident at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi, the situation here is still not good. After the incident, a fire audit was conducted here. Many such flaws were exposed in it, which could be fatal in case of fire.

Apart from removing these shortcomings, the report also said that in view of the sensitivity of the medical college, there is a need to deploy fire guards here for 24 hours. The audit report has also been sent to the government. It is expected that some changes will take place due to this.

Fire prevention measures tested at 26 places

On the night of 15 November, a fire broke out in the SNCU ward of the Medical College. 10 newborn children were burnt alive, while 8 children later died. After this fire that shocked the entire country, the government again got the fire audit of the campus done by the fire department.

Fire protection at a total of 26 places including College Building, OPD Building, Indoor Building, Gynecology Building, OT Block, TB Chest, Post Mortem House, Private Ward, Dietetic Department, Burn Department, Mental Restraint Department, Mental OPD, Guest House, PG Hostel. Solutions were tested.

20 points were investigated

Investigation was done on 20 points including fire alarm, condition of fire extinguisher, refilling of hydrant, place of keeping oxygen cylinder. Fire alarm was not found working in many departments. Fire hydrants were also not found functional at many places. Measures to avoid short circuit were also not found in many departments. There were also no emergency doors in case of fire. There is a humidifier in the medical college campus, but it is not working.

To prevent fire, it is necessary to have coupling, inlet and outlet branches, hose box and hose pipe at the hydrant point, but these arrangements were not found during the fire audit. According to CFO Rajkishore Rai, fire prevention measures were tested. Methods to prevent and prevent fire have also been suggested.

Suggestions given by safety fire audit

– Separate exit routes and stairs should be made in all buildings for safe exit.

– Considering the number of people and patients present in the medical college, shift-wise trained staff including a chief fire officer, two fire officers should be deployed 24 hours for fire prevention.

– In case of emergency, fire protection system should be operated on time.

– Wetterizer should be made useful in the medical college. Coupling, inlet branch, hosebox, hose pipe at the hydrant point should also be kept in good repair.

– All junior doctors and students should be given seven-day training on fire prevention measures once a year.

– Special measures should be taken to remove smoke from inside buildings.

– Provision for automatic water spray system should be made for supply of oxygen, LPG and others in the hospital building. The gas pipeline should be audited by a recognized institution.

District hospital and prison were also audited

The district hospital, women’s hospital and prison were also audited by the fire department. Nozzles were not installed in the hydrants at the main gate of the hospital building of the district hospital, near the gallery, pathology lab and OPD gallery.

Similarly, there was no emergency gate inside the kitchen inside the prison. Pointed out the need to move the gas cut point out of the premises. It is necessary to make provision for a fire alarm system inside the premises.
