Violence during football match in African country Guinea: 100 killed, people angry over controversial decision of referee, burn police station

On Sunday, a match took place between two teams in Jerekor, Guinea, in which violence broke out.

Nearly 100 people died in violence during a football match in Djerrekor, Guinea’s second-largest city, on Sunday. According to the New York Times, a match was going on on Sunday between the Labay and Gerekor football teams. During this, the match referee gave a controversial decision, due to which a fight broke out between the two teams. Seeing the fight taking place, the spectators also entered the field and started violence.

According to AFP reports, people also vandalized and set fire to a police station in N’Zérékor. Giving information about the incident, a doctor from the local hospital said-

The organizers had banned the arrival of Persebaya Surabaya fans because they wanted to avoid any kind of disturbance.
