The President approved the elevation of Delhi High Court Chief Justice as a Supreme Court judge.
The Supreme Court got a new judge after President Droupadi Murmu appointed the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court as a Judge of the top court, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal informed on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Manmohan was elevated as the Judge of the Supreme Court, thus bringing down the vacancy in the apex court to one.
In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.— Arjun Ram Meghwal (@arjunrammeghwal) December 3, 2024
“In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India,” Meghwal posted on X.
The decision was taken by the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna-led Collegium which also comprised Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy, and Abhay S Oka.
Justice Manmohan has been the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court since September 2024. Prior to that, he also served as the Acting Chief Justice since September last year.
