The new Maharashtra CM said the Mahayuti government will continue to work for the development of the state and momentum of the work done in the last two-and-a-half years will continue
Soon after Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, he promised a stable government and said all the Mahayuti allies will “stay and work together”.
Acknowledging Shiv Sena president Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who took oath as his two deputy chief ministers, Fadnavis said while their roles in the new government may have changed, their goals remain the same.
“Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are with me. People want a stable government, so they have chosen us and we will stay and work together. We will continue the ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’,” he said.
He further said the Mahayuti government will continue to work for the development of the state and momentum of the work done in the last two-and-a-half years will continue.
“Our roles in the government may have changed, but focus and direction remain same. Maharashtra will continue on the path of development in social, infrastructure, industrial sectors with speed,” he added.
The new chief minister said the Speaker’s election will be held during the special session of the state legislative assembly from December 7 to 9, while the cabinet expansion will take place before the winter session.
‘PORTFOLIOS ALMOST FINAL, ONLY MINOR CHANGES’
Fadnavis scripted a powerful comeback as the BJP-led Mahayuti won the 2024 assembly elections with a landslide. The coalition has a commanding majority of 230 seats in the 288-seat legislative assembly.
Immediately after the ceremony, he and his two deputies drove together to Mantralaya, the state secretariat, where he chaired a cabinet meeting. No other ministers were sworn in at the grand swearing-in ceremony, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers and CMs of various states besides thousands of supporters of the alliance.
He said the cabinet expansion will take place before the Nagpur session and the portfolios were almost final. “Before the Nagpur session, the cabinet expansion will take place. The portfolios have almost been finalised. There will be minor changes to the ministries assigned in the previous government, but most of the ministries will remain the same,” he added.
FADNAVIS SIGNS FIRST FILE FOR PATIENT AWAITING BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT
Signing his first file after taking charge of office, Fadnavis approved a proposal to provide financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for a patient awaiting bone marrow transplant. Pune-based Chandrakant Kurhade’s wife had sought help from the chief minister’s relief fund for her husband’s treatment.
He put his signature on the file before he chaired the first cabinet meeting. “The first signature I did today is regarding the decision to give Rs 5 lakh from Mukhyamantri Sahayata Nidhi for bone marrow transplant to a patient,” he told reporters.
Referring to the depleted numbers of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the assembly, he added: “Our government will work with transparency for the welfare of the people. We don’t want to indulge in vendetta politics.”
The CM called for an “overhaul of political culture” in the state. He said there should be political communication, referring to the invitation for the swearing-in ceremony extended by him to prominent political leaders like Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, who did not attend the event.
