The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday issued an order asking its employees and employees associated with government services not to go on strike for the next six months.
The order was issued exercising powers under sub-section of section 3 of the Uttar Pradesh Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1966.
The order states that officers and employees associated with any services related to the UP government will not be able to go on strike for the next six months. The order states that this decision has been taken in public interest.
The decision was taken in view of the strike organised by the employees of the Electricity Department from December 7.
The strike of the Electricity Department employees came in response to the running of the Purvanchal and Dakshinchal Distribution Corporations on the Public-Private Partnership model.
A similar kind of order was issued earlier this year in February as well. The Uttar Pradesh government invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), banning strikes by government employees in all state government departments, corporations, and authorities for a period of six months. The decision was taken during the farmers’ strike called by various union organisations.
