Devjit Saikia becomes interim secretary of BCCI: Will take over from Jai Shah; Saikia has played domestic cricket for Assam

Devjit Saikia became the Joint Secretary of BCCI in 2019.
BCCI Joint Secretary Devjit Saikia has been made the interim secretary of the board. He replaces Jay Shah, who took over as ICC chairman on December 1. Saikia is a lawyer and has played domestic cricket for Assam.
According to PTI report, Saikia has not become the permanent secretary. Elections for this post are yet to be held, however, Saikia may continue as secretary till September.
Saikia went to Dubai as BCCI representative ICC meeting was held in Dubai this week, in which Saikia represented BCCI. The meeting was led by Chairman Jay Shah, Saikia will now take over from Shah in BCCI. Before this he was Joint Secretary in the Board. It is believed that after the BCCI Secretary election, Saikia will again take over the post of Joint Secretary.

Played domestic cricket for Assam Devjit is a resident of Guwahati, he was born in 1969. In 1984, he got a chance to play for the Assam team in the CK Nayudu Trophy. Till 1989, he was also a part of Assam Under-19 team. He also played with Sourav Ganguly in the East Zone team. In 1991, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Assam as a wicketkeeper.
At the age of 21, Devjit left professional cricket and focused on academics. After completing his master’s degree in Economics, he took a law degree and became a lawyer. Saikia has also led India in the Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup.
Became Joint Secretary in 2019 Saikia became a part of Guwahati Sports Academy in 2003. Until 2018, he took part in the administration of different sports industries. In 2019, he became the Joint Secretary of BCCI, during which Sourav Ganguly was the Chairman of the Board. Saikia has been a part of BCCI since then.
