In a major turn of events, Manchester United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth has left the Old Trafford side after five months of joining, according to multiple reports.

Ashworth, who was formerly the sporting director of Newcastle United last season, departed from the Magpies this past summer to join the Red Devils in a move that was aimed at being a paradigm shift in the culture of the club under new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.

But according to reports by The Athletic, Ashworth came a mutual agreement to part ways from Old Trafford after talks with new Cheif Executive Omar Berrada.

This marks another major change in the structure of the club this season, after former boss Erik ten Hag was let go in October before new head coach Ruben Amorim’s arrival days later.

The sporting director was in charge of football performance, recruitment and operations and had already played a vital part in trying to reshape the club.

Ashworth was involved in heavy summer spending at Old Trafford – welcoming Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee to the side.

No clear replacement for the role has been decided by the club yet.
