Vishwa Hindu Raksha Parishad’s National President Gopal Rai, in a press conference held on Monday, raised the demand for complete abolition of the Waqf Board. He accused the Waqf Board of misusing its powers and illegally acquiring properties across the country.

Rai said that the Waqf Board not only takes over the lands but also spends a large part of it in spreading fundamentalism. They demanded that approximately 9 lakh acres of land and illegal properties occupied by the Waqf Board be distributed among the poor Pasmanda Muslims, Dalits, Backwards, landless upper castes, and other communities.

Giving the example of a case from Karnataka, he said that the Waqf Board declared 18 acres of land of a Hindu farmer as its property, which is unjust and unacceptable. Gopal Rai said that these actions of the Waqf Board have increased the tension not only among the farmers and property owners but also on the religious places.

Gopal Rai said that issues like closing the slaughter house on the holy land of Unnao and abolishing the Waqf Board will be considered. Proposals on these topics will be made in the Sant Sammelan to be held in Thanapati Temple premises, village Unwa (Kotwali Safipur) from 14 to 18 December.

He suggested that the Waqf Board be abolished and its properties be distributed for the welfare of Pasmanda Muslims and Muslim widows. This will benefit the weaker and deprived sections and reduce social imbalance.
