Sunny Deol Confirms Role In Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: ‘They’re Trying To Make It Like Avatar’ – News18

Although rumours suggest that Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, the actor refrained from confirming the role.

Sunny Deol was last seen in Gadar 2 which was one of the highest-grossing films of 2023.

Days after Ranbir Kapoor publicly acknowledged his involvement in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of Ramayana, Sunny Deol has officially confirmed his role in the highly anticipated project. The actor, long rumoured to be part of the two-part franchise, opened up about the massive project at the third edition of SCREEN Live in Mumbai alongside his brother Bobby Deol.

Ranbir Kapoor recently revealed at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah that he had completed shooting the first part of the film. Speaking about his role as Ram, he said, “It has two parts. I have finished the shooting of Part 1 and will shoot Part 2 soon. Just to be a part of that story, I am so humbled to essay Ram’s role. It’s a dream for me. It’s a film that has everything. It teaches what Indian culture is about — family dynamics and husband-wife dynamics.”

Sunny Deol’s confirmation has further increased the excitement surrounding the project. Sharing his experience of working on the film, Sunny said, “Ramayana is a long project because they’re trying to make it the way Avatar and Planet of the Apes movies were made. All those technicians are a part of it. The writer and director are very clear about the way it has to be and how the characters should be presented.”

Given the backlash received by some recent films based on the same subject with large-scale VFX, including Om Raut’s Adipurush, Sunny said that the visual effects in this adaptation will be revolutionary. He added, “You will also get to see the special effects that will make you believe that it (the events unfolding) has very genuinely happened rather than making one feel that these are special effects. To be honest, I’m very sure it’s going to be great and I’m sure that everybody will love it.”

Although rumours suggest that Sunny plays Hanuman, the actor refrained from confirming the role.

Producer Namit Malhotra, who has been vocal about the project’s vision, recently posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen… Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.”

The film reportedly boasts a stellar cast, with Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Kannada superstar Yash portraying Ravan. Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana aims to be a visually stunning and culturally rich cinematic experience.
