The government has completely banned the manufacture and use of red brick. Due to this, the financial crisis facing the kiln operators of the district has deepened. Dozens of kiln operators, including the District President of the Brick Industry Committee, reached the District Magistrate’s office and presented their problems. The District President said that due to the ban on red brick, more than 200 laborers working in kilns are on the verge of becoming unemployed.
In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the kiln operators said that the ban on red brick has posed a threat to their employment. They have demanded that the government should reinstate the use of red brick in construction works, so that their livelihood can be saved.
After meeting the District Magistrate, the kiln operators said that the DM has assured that the problem will be put before the government. He also said that consideration is being given to giving priority to the use of red brick in drain construction and other small works.
The ban on red brick has affected not only the kiln operators but also the workers associated with this industry. Kiln operators say that if a solution is not found soon, they will be forced to close the kilns. It is expected from the government that it will soon take a concrete decision on this issue, so that the kiln operators and laborers can get relief. .
