The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday evening held a discussion over the ongoing Bangladesh unrest even as India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri returned from Dhaka after meeting Muhammad Yunus, head of the interim government there.
The meeting, a party source said, was chaired by union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and was attended by BJP leaders of border states.
The sentiments towards India right now in Bangladesh, various entry points into India, the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh, and rising hate speech in Bangladesh were some issues that came up during the discussion, said a BJP leader who was part of the meeting.
The BJP’s Wednesday meeting comes close on the heels of deposed Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina accusing Yunus of being the “mastermind” behind the July-August turmoil that ousted her government and vowed to bring him and his allies to justice under Bangladeshi law.
“Since August 5, the attacks on minorities, places of worship of Hindus, Christians and Buddhists have been rampant. We condemn it. The Jamaat and terrorists are having a free run under the new regime,” said Hasina, who is currently in India.
