There has been a stir in the district after a video of police beating youths went viral on social media in Unnao. In the video, some people are being beaten by policemen, for which the local police and administration are being strongly criticized.

Taking cognizance of this matter, Unnao Superintendent of Police (SP) has ordered an investigation and has handed over the investigation of the matter related to this video to CO City. He has made it clear that if the policemen are found guilty, strict action will be taken against them.
Entering the shop without any reason and fighting In the viral video, some youths are seen posing as shopkeepers, who are being beaten by the police. It is also seen in the video that the policemen are entering the shop without any reason and killing these people. The victimized shopkeepers say that they had come here from Rajasthan and other states and were selling their goods, but the police beat them without any reason.
It was also claimed in the video that the police unnecessarily harassed and assaulted some shopkeepers. After this video went viral, questions have started being raised on the police action in the area.
A complaint related to this incident was given by Suraj Singh in Sadar Kotwali on 9th December. Suraj Singh had told in his complaint that on December 8, he had come to USDA located in Motinagar of Sadar Kotwali area with a bike from Manaknagar area of Lucknow. He had parked his bike here, but the bike was not found in the parking lot at night. On checking the footage of the cameras, it was found that some people were taking his bike. After this the police started investigation and conducted investigation to arrest the suspects.
Meanwhile, a video of police beating up some shopkeepers in the city went viral, which further heated up the matter. However, Sadar Kotwali Inspector Pramod Kumar Mishra said about this video that the accused of bike theft who were identified in the footage were traced and caught. He told that the bike has been delivered to Pratapgarh district.
The police officer also claimed that the allegations of assault on policemen are baseless and could only be an attempt to spread rumours. The SP expressed deep concern in this matter and said that if any fault of the policemen is found then strict action will be taken against them. He has ordered CO City to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into this incident.
