Elephants have not been kept in any zoo in the state. But it is going to start in Gorakhpur. First of all, there is a plan to keep an elephant from here. This elephant named Gangaram had become aggressive in February 2023. This elephant had killed three people during a yagya. This also includes a four year old child. Since then the elephant has been controlled and kept in Vinod Van. Ever since the elephant was brought to Vinod Van, entry of people has been restricted there. Gangaram had already taken one life before this incident.
The enclosure will be equipped with many facilities The elephant enclosure will be equipped with many facilities. It is so big that elephants will be able to move around comfortably in it. An artificial pond is being built, in which elephants will be able to bathe and drink water. The place where they are going to eat is being prepared in such a way that it is not affected by the heat. A strong iron wall is being built all around. The work of this enclosure is in the final stage.
Space will be made for spectators to watch People coming to the zoo will also be able to see elephants. Space is being made for this. From where spectators can see the elephant. There are also sufficient number of trees and plants in the enclosure. The elephant living here will feel like a forest.
Special arrangements to protect from heat Special arrangements are being made in the enclosure being built for Ganga in the zoo to protect her from the heat. A large tin shed will be installed in the enclosure, in which a layer of insulator will be applied. This insulator will absorb the heat and the elephant will feel cool.
Rs 2 lakh is spent every month on Gangaram. Every month Rs 2 lakh is spent on feeding Gangaram. It has been kept in Vinod Van for a long time. Lakhs of rupees have been spent just on feeding it. After the enclosure is built, it will be shifted after Kharmas passes. With the opening of the elephant enclosure, Gorakhpur Zoo will attract more visitors.
Every necessary arrangement will be made for the elephant Chief Veterinary Officer of the zoo, Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh said that every necessary step is being taken for the care of the elephant. The enclosure is almost ready. It will be completely ready in 15 to 20 days. The work of building a pond is going on.
