On This Day, 13 December 2017: Rohit Sharma played an unbeaten 208-run innings facing 153 balls in the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
India skipper Rohit Sharma came up with an unforgettable innings on this day (December 13) in 2017 during the second ODI against Sri Lanka. Playing in Mohali, Rohit scored a fabulous ODI double hundred. Rohit scored 208 runs not out facing 153 balls. This marked Rohit’s third ODI double-hundred. His magnificent innings comprised 13 boundaries and 12 sixes.
Rohit managed to score more than half of his blistering innings in the last10overs. Riding on Rohit’s power-packed knock, India breached the 300-run total. The hosts, eventually, got the better of Sri Lanka by 141 runs.

Winning the toss, the then Sri Lanka skipper, Thisara Perera decided to bowl first. The decision proved to be disastrous as India got off to a flying start.
India’s opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a solid partnership of 115 runs. Dhawan was the first to depart after a quickfire 68 off 67 balls. Dhawan’s breezy knock featured nine boundaries.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, carried forward his onslaught and claimed his 16th ODI hundred and his first as a captain in the 40th over. Having scored his century off 115 deliveries, Rohit decided to up the ante.
Rohit moved from 116 to 208, facing just 27 balls and slamming 11 maximums and three boundaries. The India skipper’s memorable knock came to an end at 208 off 153 balls.
Shreyas Iyer also contributed significantly, scoring 88 runs off 70 deliveries. India ended their innings on 392/4.
For Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera emerged as his side’s highest scorer of the match, having secured three scalps.
Sri Lanka, while chasing, did not have a fruitful start, losing their opener, Upul Tharanga, for seven runs in the fourth over. Danushka Gunathilaka, the other opener, also went back to the dressing room, adding just 16 runs to the scoreboard.
Angelo Mathews offered a fightback, scoring a century, but his batting went in vain. He remained unbeaten on 111 off 132 balls. The visitors eventually fell short by 141 runs. In the Indian bowling line-up, Yuzvendra Chahal excelled, picking up three wickets.
