India vs Australia Live Cricket Score, 3rd Test Day 2: Play To Start At 5:20 AM – News18
India vs Australia Live Cricket Score, 3rd Test Day 2 (India National Cricket Team vs Australia National Cricket Team Match Scorecard): Hello and welcome to the second day of the Gabba Test. After incessant rain washed out the opening day, the fans will expect some action in Brisbane.
Australia finished the day on 28-0 with Usman Khawaja 19 not out and Nathan McSweeney on four after India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field. Only 13.2 overs were bowled during the first session and there was no further play, much to the disappointment of the big crowd that had filed into the Gabba.
At one stage the outfield resembled a lake but as the weather eased the water drained away quickly, leaving only a few small areas still affected. However, the rain persisted throughout the day and the umpires eventually called off play midway through the final session.

LIVE FEED
With the dawn of a new day, there’s hope for better conditions on Day 2. While rain is still expected, it’s not predicted to be as heavy as on Day 1, giving hope for more action on the field. We will have an early start on all four remaining days of the Test with the first ball to be bowled at 11.50 pm GMT (5.20 am IST). Stay tuned!
The visitors, winning their third toss in a row, chose to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struggled to find their rhythm early, allowing Usman Khawaja to capitalize on any loose deliveries. Just 5.3 overs into the day, rain made its first unwelcome appearance, halting play temporarily. After the break, Akash Deep looked the sharpest of the Indian bowlers, but just as the pacers were settling into a rhythm, rain returned. Unfortunately, it never relented, and the players were unable to return to the field.
Hello and a warm welcome, folks! With the series locked at 1-1, all eyes were on The Gabba, and the anticipation was immense. However, rain had other plans, playing spoilsport on the opening day. Only 13.2 overs of play were possible before persistent showers forced an early close.
UPDATE – 2 am GMT (7.30 am IST) – The rain is coming down quite heavily now, and puddles have already started to form on the outfield. However, the positive news is that The Gabba has a sand-based outfield, so drainage won’t be an issue. Typically, rain breaks tend to halt the batting side’s momentum, forcing them to reset. In this case, the Indian seamers were just beginning to find their rhythm, troubling both Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney with a few close calls. As a result, Australia might actually welcome this break, while India may not be as pleased with the interruption. Stay tuned for more news.
Due to the time lost during the rain delay, the timings for the first session have been revised. Drinks will be taken at 2 am GMT (7.30 am IST) while Lunch will be taken at 2.50 am GMT (8.20 am IST).
UPDATE – 1.51 am GMT (7.21 am IST) – Uh oh! The rain has returned, and it’s getting dark overhead. Mark Nicholas informs that showers were expected during this time of the day, and the forecast has unfortunately proven accurate. The players are off the field, and the ground staff have quickly covered the entire square as the rain is coming down quite heavily. We will have to wait and see how long this delay lasts. Stay tuned for further updates.
UPDATE – 1.04 am GMT (6.34 am IST) – Good signs! The sun is peeking out from the clouds and it has stopped raining. The covers are coming off. We are hearing that play will resume at 1.15 am GMT. Stick around as the restart is not far away.
UPDATE – 2.21 am GMT (7.51 am IST) – As the rain continues to fall at The Gabba, LUNCH has been taken. Several puddles have formed on the outfield, but as mentioned earlier, the drainage at this venue is excellent, so we could see a quick turnaround once the rain stops.
UPDATE – 3 am GMT (8.30 am IST) – In an ideal world, we would have the second session starting now, but the rain continues to fall heavily and persistently at The Gabba. The outfield has taken a real beating with puddles formed all around the outfield. Mark Nicholas reckons that any more play today seems unlikely and informs that the roads adjoining the stadium are flooded. Even with the excellent drainage system in place, it looks like we are in for a long delay before we can resume play, that is, if the rain stops soon.
UPDATE – 12.50 am GMT (6.20 am IST) – Good news! The rain has eased off, and the skies are starting to brighten up. The Indian players are waiting near the boundary ropes, with Rohit Sharma seen engaging in a conversation with the fielding coach. Meanwhile, the two on-field umpires, armed with umbrellas, are having a discussion with the fourth umpire as the square remains covered. Fingers crossed for play to resume soon!
UPDATE – 3.30 am GMT (9 am IST) – The rain is still falling steadily, but there is some positive news. The outfield doesn’t appear as wet as it did earlier, with live visuals showing some improvement. Raunak Kapoor mentions that there was a brief 10-minute break in the rain, which seems to have allowed the outfield to recover somewhat. Fingers crossed that the rain subsides soon.
UPDATE – 3.55 am GMT (9.25 am IST) – The drizzle continues to persist with no significant change in the situation. Overhead conditions remain gloomy, though the outfield shows improvement with no puddles in sight. Unfortunately, more rain is visible on the radar, making the situation far from ideal. All we can do now is hope for a break in the weather. Stay tuned for further updates!
UPDATE – 12.45 am GMT (6.15 am IST) – Oh, no! The drizzle has made an untimely appearance and is starting to pick up in intensity. The players are going off as the ground staff come charging in to cover the deck. Adam Gilchrist points out a telling stat – only 1 out of the 33 balls bowled by India so far would have hit the stumps. This unexpected break in play could give India a chance to reassess their lines and lengths, which have lacked precision. From Australia’s perspective, they won’t be overly bothered by this interruption either.
UPDATE – 4.12 am GMT (9.42 am IST) – Not much has changed since the last update, as steady rain continues to fall. The radar suggests that heavier rain could be heading towards The Gabba, which likely means any hopes of further play today could be dashed. For now, all we can do is stay optimistic and hope that the rain gods show some mercy. Meanwhile, over in Hamilton, after a wicketless first session, England have managed to trigger a collapse, with New Zealand slipping from 172/2 to 212/6.
UPDATE – 4.51 am GMT (10.21 am IST) – The rain has eased to a light drizzle, but it still lingers stubbornly. With every passing minute, the chances of resuming play on Day 1 seem to be slipping away. That said, the excellent drainage system at this venue keeps a glimmer of hope alive. The forecast hints at an impending break in the weather, which could pave the way for a brief resumption. However, fading light might also become a challenge. For now, we remain optimistic and continue to wait for further updates. Stay tuned!
UPDATE – 5.42 am GMT (11.12 am IST) – Oh no, the rain has picked up in intensity and is now quite steady. A few umbrellas have gone up in the crowd, a sight that wasn’t evident the last time we had the visuals from the ground. The waiting game continues!
UPDATE – 6.07 am GMT (11.37 am IST) – The match officials are heading out to meet the ground staff. We could receive an update soon regarding the next course of action, and they may decide to call it a day. The umpires have finished their discussions with the ground staff and are now heading towards the dressing rooms. Stick around!
UPDATE – 5.33 am GMT (11.03 am IST) – The covers remain in place as the drizzle persists, though the outfield appears free of puddles. Raunak Kapoor reports that the match officials were out on the field a short while ago, discussing the conditions with the ground staff. They are now near the tunnel, with Richard Kettleborough seen chatting with Nathan Lyon, while the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is also present.
UPDATE – 5.06 am GMT (10.36 am IST) – TEA has been taken on Day 1 and it does bring some positive news. The rain has significantly reduced in intensity, but it needs to stop entirely for the ground staff to start the mop-up operation. Here’s hoping for better conditions after the break so we can get some action underway in the final session of the day.
Looking ahead, the weather forecast shows a slight improvement for Day 2, offering some hope for uninterrupted play. However, the forecast for the last three days of the Test is similar to Day 1, with potential rain interruptions. India’s pacers will need to regroup and bring sharper accuracy on Day 2, which could test Australia’s resolve. For Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, it will be about starting afresh and seeing off the first hour unscathed. To make up for the time lost on Day 1, play will start 30 minutes early on all four remaining days of the Test, with the first ball to be bowled at 11.50 pm GMT (5.20 am IST). Here’s hoping for better fortunes in terms of weather. Cheers!
After choosing to bowl first, India struggled to capitalize on the favourable overhead conditions. The bowlers lacked consistency in their lines and lengths allowing the Australian openers to settle in. With minimal movement off the pitch, the visitors rarely forced the batters into making errors. As a result, Australia’s openers, particularly Usman Khawaja, looked assured and composed at the crease. McSweeney, despite facing some testing deliveries, held his ground well. Just as the Indian pacers were beginning to find their footing, rain arrived for the second time in the day and this time around, it was persistent which meant no further play was possible.
The inevitable news has arrived! STUMPS have been called on Day 1! A day that began with the promise of exciting cricket has been overshadowed by persistent rain with only 13.2 overs of play possible. While the weather dominated proceedings, there’s hope for a more action-packed Day 2.
The forecast indicates that the weather should improve as the day progresses, so let’s hope for better playing conditions after the Lunch break. Meanwhile, why not switch tabs and catch the action from the opening day of the third Test between New Zealand and England in Hamilton? That match also holds special significance as it marks Tim Southee’s farewell Test. Don’t forget to check back here for all the updates as we await the restart!
Usman Khawaja looked assured at the crease, with the Australian openers showing great discipline in defence and judgment outside off. A drizzle after just 5.3 overs provided the Indians an opportunity to reassess, and they returned with more focus. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj began to find their rhythm, consistently beating the bat and creating a few nervy moments. However, a heavier downpour brought the session to a halt just as India appeared to be building some pressure.
An abrupt interruption due to rain cuts short the first session of the opening day. With overhead conditions and a grassy pitch, Rohit Sharma had no hesitation in opting to bowl first, but the start wasn’t as impactful as India might have hoped. The pacers struggled with their lines early on, searching for swing that wasn’t on offer.
13.2 – Back of a length, just outside off, Nathan McSweeney confidently makes another leave.
13.1 – Good length, around the fifth stump line, Nathan McSweeney holds his bat up and makes a leave.
12.6 – Outside off, on a length, Usman Khawaja leaves it alone. A probing over from Siraj comes to an end!
Batsman_1 : Usman Khawaja 19(47)
Batsman_2 : Nathan McSweeney 4(31)
Bowler : Mohammed Siraj 0/13(4)
Over : 13
Run : 0
Wicket : 0
Score : 28/0
12.5 – Another one that goes past the bat! A long stare at the deck from Khawaja! On a length, around off and angling away from the batter. Usman Khawaja takes a step out and tries to get nearer to the ball. Has a poke at it away from the body and misses on the outside edge.
