Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke in the Lok Sabha over the Constitution, its history, India’s use and misuse of the book and his government’s steps to uphold the values. At 110 minutes (1 hour and 50 minutes), the speech was longer than all his Independence Day addresses so far.
“India’s Constitution has brought us so ahead, negating all negative possibilities cited at the time of Independence. The citizens are worthy of congratulations for passing the test. India is the mother of democracy in the world,” said Modi.
Listing the measures taken by his government, PM Modi attacked the Congress, “One family of the Congress has crushed the Constitution…only one family was ruling for 55 years. The biggest jumla was ‘garibi hatao’ for four generations of a family….Jinko koi nahi poochhta, unko Modi pujta hai…When the country was completing 50 years of the Constitution, Emergency was brought in, dissolving Constitutional provisions. Citizens’ rights were snatched away. The Congress can never wash off this taint from its forehead.”
