D Gukesh Scripts History

In the final Game 14 of the World Chess Championships, 18-year-old Indian GM D Gukesh defeated Chinese GM Ding Liren to become the sport’s youngest-ever global champion. Gukesh’s historic victory makes him the 18th grandmaster and just the second Indian grandmaster to win the world championship title, after the great Viswanathan Anand. Both players were on equal footing going into the last match, which followed 13 thrilling games. They had each earned 6.5 points, and they needed one point—that is, a victory—to secure the title of world champion.

ISRO Achieves Milestone For Gaganyaan Programme

On December 13, ISRO stated that the first solid motor section had been moved from the production factory to the launch site, marking a critical milestone for the Gaganyaan programme. The decision comes only days after the space agency performed the Gaganyaan’s ‘well deck’ rescue experiments with the Indian Navy on December 6. The space agency stated that a ship’s well deck can be filled with water, allowing boats, landing craft and retrieved spacecraft to dock within the ship. The Gaganyaan project aims to demonstrate human spaceflight capability by launching a three-person crew into a 400-kilometer orbit for a three-day trip and safely returning them to Earth by landing in Indian sea waters.

India Achieves 69% Drop In Malaria Cases

According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) most recent World Malaria Report, India has made significant success in the fight against malaria, with a 69 per cent drop in both cases and deaths.The report claims that because of “significant progress in reducing the malaria incidence and mortality observed in its high-endemic states,” India formally left the High Burden High Incidence (HBHI) group in 2024.

SC To Test Validity Of Two Provisions Of 1991 Law On Religious Places

The Supreme Court would largely consider the constitutionality of two provisions of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, which was introduced by the PV Narasimha Rao-led government to freeze the status of religious places as of August 15, 1947. On December 12, the apex court barred all courts in the country from entertaining and issuing effective interim or final rulings in any litigation seeking remedy, including surveys of religious sites under the 1991 statute.

Why Did The British Shift India’s Capital From Kolkata To Delhi?

The British colonial rulers of India staged a great Delhi Durbar on December 11, 1911, marking a watershed moment in the country’s history. During his address at the Durbar on this day, King George V advocated a fundamental political shift: India’s capital would be relocated from Kolkata (then Calcutta) to Delhi. The British responded enthusiastically to the plan, and the move swiftly achieved unanimous approval among their ranks. The very next day, December 12, 1911, in front of nearly 80,000 people, King George V publicly proclaimed the move of India’s capital to Delhi.
