Virat Kohli Takes A Sharp Catch To Award Jasprit Bumrah Key Australian Wicket At Gabba: Watch – News18

Jasprit Bumrah’s fourth wicket of the day came off a good reflex catch from Virat Kohli at slips.
Indian vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah got Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh out for the first time in Tests at the Gabba on Sunday, courtesy of a sharp catch at second slip from Virat Kohli. It was Bumrah’s fourth wicket of the day and the second of a fiery spell with the second new ball.
It was the perfect ball from the right-arm pacer — on a good length and angling in on the off-stump. It straightened off the pitch and Marsh was only half-forward trying to defend it, which allowed it to take the outside edge and fly to second slip. Kohli crouched down and showed good reflexes to take it with both hands in front of his chest. Watch a video of the wicket here:
Marsh went for 5 (16) but Bumrah and the rest of the team’s lack of celebration was telling. The wicket came when Australia had already scored 326 runs in the first innings, after centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Bumrah took Smith’s wicket a couple of overs ago and then prized out Head as well, only three balls after Marsh, to complete his fifer.
Marsh and Bumrah had previously come across each other in three Tests but it was the first time the bowler got the wicket. Still, Marsh has never looked comfortable against the Indian quick, which is reflected in his batting average of 20 in the duel. Bumrah has also got Marsh out twice in ODIs and took his wicket in the only ball he bowled to him in IPL, in 2022.
But, although the quick wickets threatened to stop Australia’s rise, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey had other thoughts. He combined with skipper Pat Cummins for a quick 55-run stand before Mohammed Siraj took out the latter and then carried Australia to 401/7 in 100 overs.
The pitch has certainly helped the home side with conditions being mostly flat throughout the day. However, a lack of consistency from Siraj, who has been dealing with injuries and Akash Deep having no luck in his spells, has made India look like a one-man attack.
