The Spaniard, who came in second best to Manchester City two years on the bounce in the PL, opined that winning the League Cup would prove to be a boost for the club looking to clinch the English top-flight title for the first time since 2004.

“I fully believe in that, the fact you are winning, you get into the next round of the competition, it builds, it creates something different around the team, that’s why these kind of games are really, really important,” Arteta said.

Arteta voiced that a cup win would generate the momentum for a club to challenge for the league title by creating a pathway and encouraging a sense of winning energy.

“It brings belief, trust, positive energy,” he said.

“Touching a cup, beating someone in the semi-final, beating someone in the final, it generates that energy,” the 42-year-old said.

“And I think it creates that right path to go and do something else, especially because of the timing and when the competition is played in this country, it gets the momentum going,” the Gunners gaffer added.

Arteta added that he would field the best he deems best to be able to pick up the win against Palace on the day of the quarters.

“We’ll decide that in the morning in relation to how the squad is, obviously the relevance of the match and where we are in the quarter-finals, it becomes a very important match,” he said.
