Mufasa The Lion King Movie Review (Hindi Version): With Mufasa now released in Hindi, Disney India has brought together the three Khans for the first time — and no, I’m not talking about Aamir, Salman, and Shah Rukh Khan. This time, it’s Shah Rukh Khan alongside his sons Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan, who have lent their voices to the three generations of The Lion King. Together, they’ve created an entertaining film that blends family values with nostalgia.

Mufasa, directed by Barry Jenkins in English, sees Shah Rukh Khan returning as Mufasa, while Aryan Khan voices Simba. However, this time, AbRam makes his debut as young Mufasa.

The plot of Mufasa: The Lion King delves into the origin story of Mufasa and Taka. After a devastating flood separates Mufasa from his pride, he’s swept away by the river and ends up near Taka’s pride. A bond forms between Mufasa and Taka, but soon, they must flee due to threats from the Outsiders. Eventually, Mufasa meets Sarabi, Zazu, and Rafiki, and embarks on a journey to Milele. Does he make it through the trials? You’ll have to watch to find out.

That being said, if you have the choice, I highly recommend watching Mufasa in Hindi (or any regional language). The desi elements of the story — especially the themes of family — make the Hindi version feel more connected to the narrative. The dialogues in Hindi are funnier, with not only Pumbaa and Timon stealing the show, but Zazu adding a filmy twist with lines like, “Itna sannata kyun hai?” The emotional depth is also much stronger in Hindi.

However, one aspect that stands out in the Hindi version is the pacing. Despite the additional elements that enhance the story in the Hindi dub, the rushed pace is still noticeable. The linear narrative, while engaging, doesn’t completely mask the writing flaws, especially in the film’s structure.

While the plot might feel rushed at times, the voice cast keeps things engaging. Shah Rukh Khan as Mufasa holds the film together. Unlike the English version, which leans more towards Taka, the Hindi version feels Mufasa-centric, thanks to SRK’s commanding presence. Aryan Khan’s role is limited, given the storyline’s focus, but AbRam’s portrayal of young Mufasa grabs attention whenever he appears. However, one can’t help but wish there was more of him in the film.

Sanjay Mishra’s Pumbaa and Shreyas Talpade’s Timon are as hilarious as ever, bringing a perfect comedic touch to the film. Makarand Deshpande shines as Rafiki, grounding the character with sincerity. On the other hand, Vikrant Chaturvedi’s portrayal of Kiros, the white lion king, feels weak compared to Mads Mikkelsen’s performance in the English version. Mads brought a sense of might and fear to the character, which Vikrant’s delivery lacked.

The music also stands out in the Hindi version. Shaan’s vocals are impressive, especially in the songs he performs. While I still prefer the English version of Bye Bye, the Hindi tracks hold their own and feel more in tune with the film’s overall tone.

When it comes to musicals, no one does it like Bollywood. Disney India has successfully infused this international film with a distinctly desi flavour, making it an even more enjoyable experience than the English version. Mufasa in Hindi is a must-watch, with its vibrant, family-centric storytelling, strong performances, and unforgettable music.
