Doctors at a private hospital in Faridabad successfully reattached the uprooted scalp of a 13-year-old girl after an eight-hour microvascular surgery, giving her a new lease on life
Doctors at Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, Uttar Pradesh, successfully reattached the uprooted scalp of a 13-year-old girl in a challenging and complex surgery lasting eight hours. The girl had suffered a severe accident when her hair became entangled in a generator fan, completely uprooting her scalp. The expertise of the doctors and timely intervention gave the girl a second chance at life.
The girl was brought to the hospital in a critical condition approximately 10 hours after the injury. Despite the delay, the doctors carefully reconnected the blood vessels, nerves, and scalp using advanced microvascular surgery. This intricate procedure, requiring exceptional skill and precision, was successfully performed.
Dr Mohit Sharma, head of the hospital’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department, shared that scalp avulsion is a serious injury requiring expert surgical intervention. Without this successful procedure, skin grafting would have been necessary to cover the exposed head bones, leading to a lifelong risk of deformity.
The success of the surgery highlights the hospital’s cutting-edge medical technology and the doctors’ expertise. Dr Vasundhara Jain emphasised the complexity of the procedure but expressed hope following the girl’s excellent recovery.
The girl’s parents also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors for their life-saving efforts.
The father shared that the accident had left their family devastated, and seeing his daughter in such a condition was heart-breaking. He stated, “Coming to Amrita Hospital was the best decision of our lives. The doctors not only saved our daughter but also gave her the chance to live a normal life.”
