Parliament Winter Session LIVE: Congress MPs Begin March From Vijay Chowk, BJP Protests At Gandhi Statue – News18

Parliament Winter Session Updates: The ongoing winter session of the Parliament will close today with both the ruling and the opposition parties clashing over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark on Dr BR Ambedkar.

The opposition will march from the Vijay Chowk to the Parliament, while the BJP will protest at the Gandhi statue today, which comes after dramatic scenes unfolded on Thursday.

Two BJP MPs were hospitalised after they reportedly suffered head injuries during a clash with opposition party leaders. A case has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “physical assault and incitement” during a scuffle in the Parliament premises.

The Ambedkar row erupted after Shah’s remark in the Rajya Sabha on the last day of the Constitution debate. “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar’. If they took God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven,” Shah said.

The remarks quickly escalated a protest by the opposition front, who described it as an insult to the maker of the Constitution. The BJP countered, saying that the opposition tweaked Shah’s remark to disrupt the Parliament proceedings.
