The incidents of finding dead bodies of newborn babies are continuously increasing in Shahjahanpur. The latest case is of the dead body of a newborn being found in a pit on the banks of a pond located at the railway crossing near Tikri outpost of Nigohi police station area. Other incidents also happened:
Earlier, the dead body of a newborn was also found in the drain of Kant police station area. This is the third incident when the dead body of a newborn has been reported in Nigohi police station area. Police have conducted postmortem of the body and started investigation. The pit near the spot where the body was found was not very deep, and police say that the infant’s body was covered with forceps, making it not the body of a fetus.
Some apprehensions in the preliminary investigation:
The police have expressed suspicion that the newborn child may have been thrown into the pit after birth due to fear of local shame, or may have been buried after the death of the newborn. The pit was not very deep, so it is also believed that wild animals might have pulled the body out of the pit.
Police action:
Tikri outpost in-charge said that the postmortem of the body has been done and information is being collected from the hospital as to how many deliveries have taken place in the area. Police are deeply investigating the matter and more information related to this incident is expected to be revealed soon.
