Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced that the Delhi government will start registrations for post-poll schemes – Mahila Samman and Sanjivani Yojana – from December 23, asking people to keep their voter cards ready.

Kejriwal, who has said time and again that a lot of voters are being removed from the electoral roll ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, asked potential beneficiaries to check their names in the voter list. The first and most basic criteria for these schemes is that beneficiaries must be registered as a voter in Delhi.

Addressing the media, he said for the registrations, the people will not have to go anywhere. For their convenience, the teams will go from door to door.

About the Mahila Samman Yojana, where each woman aged above 18 will receive Rs 2,100 every month, the former Delhi chief minister said it will help young women to pursue higher education.

“The housewives will be able to contribute to household expenses as the inflation is high due to the policies of the central government… I want to say that the registration will start from Monday. You don’t have to stand in a queue and waste your time. We will come to your home,” he said.

He further said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had formed teams that will visit each house. All the women in a household will be registered and given a card. “You need to keep that card safe,” he added.

On the Sanjivani Yojana, under which all senior citizens in Delhi will be entitled to free medical treatment, Kejriwal said there is no one to care for the middle class in India. He said no government had done anything for them and many people work hard as well as pay taxes worth lakhs and crores to contribute for nation building.

“When they are retired, there is no one to take care of them. Health is a major issue in old age. I want to tell them all that now you don’t have to worry. The AAP will take care of your medical expenses. The registration for this scheme will also be done from Monday door to door,” he said.

He also said for these schemes, the beneficiaries need to be a voter in Delhi so people should keep their voter card ready when the registration team arrives. “You should also check that your name is not deleted from the voter list. A lot of voters are being removed from the list. They (BJP) don’t want you to get the benefit of these schemes. If your name is removed, please tell the visiting team about it. We will add you to the list,” he added.

The AAP leader said along with Chief Minister Atishi and former deputy Manish Sisoida, he will visit different parts of the national capital for the registrations.

Both these schemes have not yet been implemented and will only become a reality if the AAP is re-elected in the 2025 assembly polls, likely to be held in February. Kejriwal said there will be around 35 to 40 lakh women and 10 to 15 lakh senior citizens, who are potential beneficiaries.

Hitting out at opposition BJP, he said the party lacked vision for Delhi. “For the entire election in Delhi, they (BJP) don’t have any narrative and vision for the people of Delhi. There is no planning and programme if they are elected. They only have one job to abuse Kejriwal and the AAP. Should people vote for them because they abuse? How will people benefit from this?” he asked.

The term of the Delhi assembly ends in February next year. The elections are likely to be held the same month.

Kejriwal, who is the second longest serving CM of Delhi, is aiming for another term after back-to-back landslide wins in 2015 and 2020.
