Actress Blake Lively has made shocking allegations of sexual harassment against her ‘It Ends with Us’ co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. Soon after, a new report published private text messages that were filed as part of Blake Lively’s suit. The New York Times reviewed documents and messages that allegedly reveal how Baldoni orchestrated a PR-driven smear campaign against Blake after she alleged that Justin, and Jamey Heath, the producer, had engaged in misconduct while shooting the film.
As per New York Times, Justin Baldoni contacted Jennifer Abel, the public relations head of his studio, Wayfarer, and together, they brought in crisis management expert Melissa Nathan for the job. The report further states that in May 2024, months after the shooting of It Ends With Us concluded, Baldoni realized that Ryan Reynolds (Blake’s husband) had blocked him on Instagram. “We should have a plan for IF she does the same when movie comes out,” wrote Justin, in an alleged text exchange that include Jennifer Abel. “Plans make me feel more at ease,” he added.
The New York Times report states that on August 2, an initial planning document was sent to Wayfarer and Justin Baldoni. In the document, Melissa Nathan suggested media talking points, one of which included that Blake Lively used an imbalance of power to take creative control of the film. Justin, however, texted Jennifer Abel and Jamey Heath, “Not in love with the document they sent. Not sure I’m feeling the protection I felt on the call.” Jennifer then reportedly conveyed his frustration to Melissa Nathan in a text that read, “I think you guys need to be tough and show the strength of what you guys can do in these scenarios. He wants to feel like she can be buried.”
Private Texts Detail Alleged Smear Campaign Against Blake Lively
The report quoted Melissa Nathan replying, “Of course- but you know when we send over documents we can’t send over the work we will or could do because that could get us in a lot of trouble. We can’t write we will destroy her.” Moments later, she added, “Imagine if a document saying all the things that he wants ends up in the wrong hands. You know we can bury anyone.”
Three days later, Justin Baldoni reportedly texted Jennifer Abel, sending her a social media thread that accused another celebrity of bulling behaviour, stating that this was what he needed. As per the report, Melissa Nathan then suggested proposals to hire contractors to dominate social media through “full social account take downs,” by starting “threads of theories”. She added, “All of this will be most importantly untraceable.”
Blake Lively sues Justin Baldoni
Yesterday, TMZ reported that Blake Lively is suing Justin Baldoni. She reportedly made allegations of sexual harassment, and claimed that there was a coordinated effort to destroy her reputation. However, Baldoni’s team called the allegations a false attempt to rehab her reputation.
TMZ reports that Lively mentioned incidents including inappropriate comments about weight, discussions of sexual topics, and references to Baldoni’s “pornography addiction” in front of her and other cast members. She also accused Baldoni of showing her explicit images and making comments about the genitalia of the cast and crew. The lawsuit comes months after reports of tension on the set of the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s popular novel, It Ends with Us.
