Apple Is No Longer The Top Smartwatch Brand In The World: Here’s The New Leader – News18
Last Updated:
Apple Watch has been the popular choice in the smartwatch segment but a new product has the lead now and it comes from China.
Apple has been dominating the consumer electronics world for years now, with its phones and wearables setting high standards. But in an unexpected turn, Huawei has emerged as a formidable challenger. Surpassing Apple in wrist-worn device shipments, the Chinese tech giant has shattered records in the first nine months of this year, according to the latest IDC report on Worldwide Wearables Quarterly Tracker. This includes both smartwatches and fitness bands, signalling a potential shift in the wearables market.
Curious about how Huawei managed to surpass Apple? The company’s rise is the result of smart strategies and innovation. Huawei introduced new models like the GT5 and GT5 Pro, featuring advanced health-tracking capabilities that cater to the growing demand for wellness-focused technology.
In addition to product innovation, Huawei expanded into new markets such as Latin America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, tailoring its offerings to local preferences. This approach has proven successful, driving steady growth for the brand. But the company’s momentum has slowed in markets like the US and India.
While Apple still leads the global smartwatch market, the competition is intensifying. The release of the Series 10 smartwatch gave Apple a short-term sales boost in Q3, but rival brands are quickly closing the gap.
The IDC report further highlights that China has played a big role in shaking up the global market. The country saw a 20% increase in wrist-worn device shipments this year, while global numbers experienced a slight decline. Chinese consumers are increasingly drawn to smartwatches and fitness bands, attracted by features such as health tracking and stylish designs.
It is also important to note that Huawei is not the only company challenging Apple’s dominance in the smartwatch market. Other brands, such as Xiaomi and Samsung, are gaining significant traction and rising through the ranks. Xiaomi’s Band 9 and Watch S series, for instance, offer impressive features at budget-friendly prices, making them a great option for a wide range of users.
Samsung, on the other hand, has strengthened its position by offering both premium and budget models, making it a formidable competitor in the smartwatch industry.
