Atal Bihari Vajpayee studied in DAV College.
Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Whenever Atal Bihari Vajpayee is talked about, Kanpur is definitely mentioned.

He did BA from Victoria College (presently Lakshmibai College), Gwalior. After this, he studied MA in Political Science from DAV College, Kanpur. Along with this, he also started student politics from here. Even today his memories are preserved in the college.
Classes were held in room number 20 on the first floor.
Came to Kanpur in 1945
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had taken admission in DAV College, Kanpur in 1945. He lived in room number 104 of the hostel of DAV College. Even today no one lives in that room, there are only memories of Atal ji. He obtained MA degree in Political Science in 1947.
Atal ji’s class was held in this room.
Took admission in LLB with father
Principal of DAV College, Prof. Arun Kumar Dixit told that Atal ji started studying LLB in 1948 with his father Krishna Bihari Vajpayee. His father also lived with his son in the same hostel, but due to joining politics, he left his LLB studies midway.
People say that when both father and son came to take admission, people were surprised here, on the day when father came to take class, Atal Bihari ji did not come and on the day when he used to come, father did not come to class.
Student became political after staying in hostel for four years.
The group used to gather on the banks of Ganga
He told that the group of youth of Atal Bihari Vajpayee was quite large. His mafil was decorated every day on the banks of Ganga. At the same time, he also wrote many sarcastic poems, which are still very popular in Kanpur.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee had great love for the country since his student days. After the independence of the country, he took steps towards politics. He also went to the Sangh branch every day.
Father and son lived in this room of the hostel.
The college was affiliated to Agra University.
Pro. Deepshikha Chaturvedi told that at that time this college was affiliated to Agra University. Vajpayee ji studied here for about four years. Even today, Atal ji’s photo is displayed in the political science department of the college as a memento of his best students.
At that time he had secured first position in college and second position in university. Even today his name is mentioned on the student board. Atal ji had learned the ABCD of politics from here.
Atal was known as Sahebzade
The principal of the college told that the professors of Atal Ji College used to call him Sahabzade. Not only this, fellow students used to come to see this father-son duo. The professor who taught both of them used to joke a lot.
Even today the hostel room is full of his memories.
Was refused to take scholarship College professor tells that Atal ji had more confidence in himself. He had stopped taking the scholarship of Rs 75 from the college after just one year and had said that it should be given to poor students.
Along with his studies, he also used to go to CAB School, Hatia for tuition with his father. Told that father taught English and Atal ji taught Geography.
Got a reward of Rs 10 for reciting a poem Referring to one of his books, Kanpur, Atal ji had said that on 15 August 1947, a celebration was being held in the hostel. In this, I recited a poem depicting the pain of incomplete freedom.
After listening to that poem, the then Vice Chancellor of Agra University, Lala Diwan Chand, who was presiding over the function, gave a reward of Rs 10.
