Weeks of speculation about Imtiaz Ali directing a film with Fahadh Faasil in the lead have finally been confirmed. During a directors’ roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter India, Imtiaz revealed the film’s title. He shared that while the project is in the works, it might not be his next release.
he said, “This announcement is out, but it’s like a little ahead of its time. There is a movie, but I don’t know, it might not be the next one up. But, yes, I’ve been trying to make this film for a long time. It’s called The Idiot of Istanbul.”
When asked if Fahadh Faasil is playing the lead in the film, Imtiaz confirmed it and said, “I would like it…yeah. I would love to do this. And now, since you’ve cornered me, I don’t know why I’m not supposed to say this. But yes, my plan is to make this film with Fahadh.”
As per the report, the filmmaker is adding final touches to the script and production is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2025. Imtiaz Ali will produce the film under his banner, Window Seat Films. While the film will mark Fahad’s first collaboration with Imtiaz and his Bollywood debut, Triptii previously starred in Laila Majnu which was written by the filmmaker.
A source had earlier told Peeping Moon, “They’ve been discussing this project for months, and it was recently finalised contractually. Triptii’s pairing with him adds an exciting and unique dimension to this collaboration. Imtiaz is known for pushing boundaries in love stories, and this one promises to stand out in his repertoire.”
The source added, “Fahadh Faasil will make his Bollywood debut with this film, and he’s extremely excited to begin his journey in Hindi cinema with Imtiaz Ali, who is one of his favourite Bollywood directors.”
