Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was given an honorary doctorate degree on 15 March 2008 at the 90th convocation of BHU. His wife Gursharan Kaur was also present with him in this function. Came to attend the function as chief guest. Had come to Kashi on 14th March during his tour.

The 90th convocation of BHU was celebrated on 15 March 2008 in the amphitheater grounds of the university campus. The then Chancellor of the University Maharaja Karan Singh and Vice Chancellor Prof. were present at the ceremony. Punjab Singh was also sitting with him on the stage. Dr. Manmohan Singh was given a warm welcome as Prime Minister on his arrival in Kashi a day before the main function. On his arrival in Kashi, he met the weavers here.

Had worshiped with wife in Baba Vishwanath temple

Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh along with his wife had worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum of Vishwanath temple. Information says that he was in the temple for about 1 hour. He had taken detailed information about Kashi from the priest there. He also got a warm welcome outside the temple.

Saw Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.

In the year 2008, late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had participated in the world famous Maa Ganga Aarti organized by Ganga Seva Nidhi at Dashashwamedh Ghat. At that time, he had paid obeisance to Maa Ganga from the Jal Police post itself along with Professor Chandramouli Upadhyay and Shridhar Mother Ganga was worshiped by Pandey.
