Sunita Ahuja, wife of Govinda, shares how their bond includes playful ‘gali galoch’ and how she adjusted to win over his family early in their relationship.

Sunita Ahuja, wife of Bollywood veteran Govinda, recently opened up about their unconventional bond and candid relationship during an interview with Hauterrfly. Joined by their daughter, Tina Ahuja, Sunita reflected on her marriage, revealing surprising and humorous details about how she and Govinda interact with each other.

When asked about her feelings regarding Govinda working with female co-stars, Sunita revealed that she and her husband do not share a typical “husband and wife” dynamic. She stated, “Aaj tak bhi nhi lagta ki hum husband-wife hai. (Even today, I don’t feel that we’re man and wife.)” She also described their playful banter, saying, “Galiya galoch chalti hai humari. (We use abusive language with each other).” According to Sunita, she often jokingly questions whether Govinda is truly her husband, remarking, “Mujhey aaj tak vishwaas nhi hora tu mera pati hai. (I still can’t believe you’re my husband.)”

This light-hearted and open bond extends to their family life. Sunita also shared an anecdote from their early years when she transitioned from wearing miniskirts to sarees to respect Govinda’s mother’s preferences. Speaking on the Time Out with Ankit podcast, she recalled Govinda advising her, “Meri maa ko nahin jamega…Maine bola theek hai saree pehen lete hain ki farak padega. By hook or by crook patana to tha (He said my mother won’t approve. I agreed to wear sarees because it didn’t matter—I had to woo him at any cost).”

Sunita, known for her spirited personality, is not only a supportive wife but also a cool mother to their children, Yashvardhan and Tina.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Govinda, who ruled Bollywood in the 1990s with hits like Hero No. 1 and Coolie No. 1, was last seen in the comedy film Rangeela Raja. Fans are eagerly waiting to see him return to the big screen with his signature charm and humour.
