Weather Updates: Kashmir’s lowest temperatures fell further as the valley is under the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the harshest winter period of 40 days that started on December 21.
North India continued to witness a severe cold wave on Wednesday while tourist spots like Srinagar and Shimla did not see snowfall on Christmas- which is usually the case. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 7.3 degrees Celsius while Tabo in the Lahaul and Spiti district- at a night temperature of minus 10.6 degrees Celsius- was the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh.
Here are top updates on cold wave in North India
– Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius on December 25. This was two notches above the season’s average while the minimum temperature in the national capital was 1.5 notches below normal- at 8.4 degrees Celsius. Low visibility conditions continued to prevail at the Delhi Airport however there was no impact on flight operations.
– Most areas of Rajasthan continued to be enveloped in dense fog as eastern parts saw light rain while a ‘cold day’ was recorded at some places in western parts of the state.
– In Punjab, Faridkot recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.2 degrees Celsius, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius and Gurdaspur 5.5 degrees Celsius.
– In Haryana, Narnaul was the coldest place, with a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius while Hisar recorded a low of 6.8 degrees Celsius, Karnal and Sirsa 8 degrees Celsius, and Gurugram 9.3 degrees Celsius.
– Uttar Pradesh witnessed two days of rain caused by western disturbances which cleared up on Wednesday.
– Kashmir’s lowest temperatures fell further as the valley is under the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the harshest winter period of 40 days that started on December 21. The weather department predicted a further dip of two to three degrees in the minimum temperatures in Kashmir over the next two days.
– Himachal Pradesh also experienced cold wave conditions as minimum temperatures dropped in most areas of the state. The weather department predicted rain and snow at isolated places in the state, particularly in Shimla, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
