Delhi Weather Updates: As per IMD, smog or shallow fog is likely in most areas of Delhi, with moderate fog predicted for Saturday morning.
Delhi residents will see more rainfall today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital, predicting more showers over the weekend. Noida, Gurugram and other places will also witness incessant rainfall, the weather department warned as Delhi-NCR saw a major drop in temperatures.
What IMD said on Delhi weather over the weekend
As per IMD, smog or shallow fog is likely in most areas of Delhi, with moderate fog predicted for Saturday morning. A generally cloudy sky with intermittent rain and one or two spells of light rain and thunderstorms are likely until the forenoon with the weather expected to remain cloudy thereafter, it said. The IMD also predicted a spell of shallow fog or smog on Saturday evening.
Delhi records highest December rainfall in 15 years
As per IMD data, the observatory at Safdarjung recorded an additional 30.2 mm of rainfall between from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Friday. The total rainfall for December stands at 42.8 mm, the highest rainfall this month in the last 15 years. An active western disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds is causing rainfall and thunderstorms in the Delhi-NCR region, officials said. Temperatures also dropped to 9.5 degree celsius- the lowest maximum temperature in the last five years.
