Former PM Manmohan Singh Funeral Live Updates: The final journey of Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister and the architect of economic reforms in India, began from the AICC headquarters at 10 am.
Singh’s last rites will be performed at Nigam Bodh Ghat in New Delhi at 11.45 am with full State honours. “It has been decided by the Government that a State funeral will be accorded to Dr. Manmohan Singh. The funeral will take place at 11:45 am on 28th December 2024 at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi,” the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a communication.
Several leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, chief ministers, and foreign leaders, paid their last respects to Singh at his residence in New Delhi on Friday.
Singh passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday. The hospital statement attributed his death to “age-related medical conditions” and said that he was hospitalised after a “sudden loss of consciousness” at home.
On Friday night, the Union Home Ministry announced that the Centre would allocate space for a memorial to former PM Manmohan Singh in Delhi. It added that the information has been passed to his family and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, who had initially urged the government that the former PM’s last rites be held at a place where a memorial can be built.
